Q: Why should I upload?
A: As I've said before, many file hosting services need more files in order to get more views for their ads in order to get more money. Now, it is only logical that they would want more files, and in order to stay competitive against other services and to attract more users, they will usually offer incentives to upload. For example, on Rapidshare, if you upload a file and it gets downloaded by a free user, you get one point. If you get 10000 points, you get to extend your account for a month or create a new one month account. Many people who use Rapidshare don't want to pay to have the Premium benefits, so they see that it is worth it to upload files in order to not have to pay the monthly fee. Another service that does something like this is Megashares. Megashares doesn't have Premium accounts, rather, it has link cards which are more anonymous and less binding. They offer a sort of affiliate service where if someone clicks on the Link Card buy link from a page of a file you uploaded, you'll get a percentage of the money.

So you see, usually there are benefits to uploading files that are provided by the service itself, but if you really consider yourself a good samaritan, you could say that you're uploading to help the community. And I'm sure that those premium points will not encourage you whatsoever .

Q: Alright, I'm convinced, where do I get stuff to upload?
A: Well, many people think that it is OK to simply download stuff from here and just reupload them to your account. Although this is not really against the rules, think of the person who you are stealing downloads from. If you uploaded something then someone else came and reuploaded that to their account, effectively stealing part of the downloads you could've gotten, would you be happy? Of course, this is unless you are mirrorring files from different sites, in which case, it still is kind of wrong as the person still doesn't get the exposure they deserve.

So, if you shouldn't get files from here to upload, then where?! Irony that that is a question inside an answer to a question in a FAQ aside, there are various places you could find files from. Firstly, you need to know that all warez on the internet come from the Scene, P2P only groups (e.g. Axxo) or from single users. The Scene is a rather secretive collection of chat channels and topsites (super fast hidden dedicated servers) in which professional groups compete to see who can release games, movies, applications or anything else faster. Some groups only do it for kicks though, or perhaps to learn. The Scene is also quite organized, to the point where all releases are indexed. You can find a list of releases here:

These releases are firstly only available on the topsites which not many people have access to, and then are later redistributed on the web. This can take anywhere between seconds and hours, hardly ever more than an hour though. They then show up on various places such as private FTPs, the Usenet, private torrent sites, P2P networks and of course, here. Most of the people who upload here have access to private FTPs, the Usenet or private torrent sites. Of course, you could also get files from other sites like this one, but it'd be the same thing as getting the files from here, just more indirect.

Q: TL;DR, where do you recommend a new guy like me to get stuff like this then?
A: Too long; Didn't read eh? Well, that's OK, I tend to go on and on regarding these things. I would personally recommend torrent sites like TorrentLeech or Demonoid. ThePirateBay even if you don't want a private tracker.

Q: Alright, I got my files all nice and downloaded, but how am I going to make it small enough to upload on my file hosting service of choice?
A: Seems we have a problem eh? Well, you have two options: use WinRAR or use a file splitter. A popular file splitter would be HJSplit available at:

Of course, that solution isn't too popular at all, even though it is technically more correct. What most people use is WinRAR as it has the ability to compress and split files. If you are splitting movie files, set the compression ratio to Store. Know why? Because DivX/XviD uses a similar type of compression as WinRAR so you won't be getting much compression (a couple of MBs at most). Here would be a screenshot illustrating how to set up WinRAR to split files correctly. To get that dialog, simply select the files you want to pack, right click and click Add to archive...

Q: Why is my upload so slow?!
A: You see, the way that DSL and Cable work, they provide a very small frequency range for upload and a large one for download. The difference between the two can actually be very disproportionate. For example, I have a 4 MBit download yet only 512 KBit or so upload. If you know your real upload speed, and you know that you're uploading slower than you should, then maybe you should try a different network (if you're on Rapidshare), a different program to upload, or perhaps a different protocol altogether.

What I do is I upload everything on my web hosting and then remote upload it to Rapidshare. I happen to have excellent speeds using FTP. This also allows me to make mirror to other file hosting services if I were so inclined (as well as sharing the files with my friends without needing a Rapidshare account).

Q: What's the difference between a full game and a rip?
A: Most games are quite large and some people just want to be able to play them without all the extras, so there are rips. Rips are basically the game without some feature. For example, a common GTA 3 rip simply does not include the radio audio tracks, which decreased the file size by a significant amount. Some people, however, like to enjoy the game to it's fullest and dislike rips, especially when the poster doesn't specify that it is one. Normally, full games are found in ISOs, whereas Rips tend to come unpacked.

Q: What are these weird files? Where's my game?
A: Most full games are released in some sort of image format. These images are basically carbon copies of the CD or DVD of the game (with a crack folder inside most of the times). These images have to be mounted with an image mounting program. By "mounting" an image, you're basically creating a pretend CD/DVD drive and inserting the copy of the CD/DVD as if it were a real one, so your computer wouldn't know the difference (it would be as if you had the actual CD/DVD). You could also burn the image on a physical media instead of mounting it on a virtual drive.

Image extensions include: iso, mdf, mds, img, nrg, cdr (Mac), bin, cue, bwt, bwi, bws, bwa, ccd, cso, daa, uif, dmg (Mac).

Q: Yea, I think I have an image, how do mount it? I don't want to waste a CD/DVD.
A: No problem. There are two very popular image mounting programs, both of which recognize most if not all of the extensions listed above. They are Daemon Tools:

Q: It's asking me for a serial! What do I do?
A: Most full games are kept intact as a release, so usually instructions will either be provided in the thread where you found the links, or in an NFO file. If there is nothing in the thread, look for a folder in the game CD/DVD called CRACK or the group name, like DEVIANCE. There will usually be an NFO and crack or keygen in there. If you need a program to read NFO's, try Notepad with a monoblock font, or DAMN NFO Viewer:

A: Well, you could try to find either a mini-image, which is the same as the regular image, but it is only a couple of KB big, or you could try and find a no-CD crack. Q: Hey, I downloaded a file and it didn't play or gave me a weird error!
A: You very, very likely don't have the right codec. You see, in order to reduce file size, a movie is encoded so that it is smaller yet doesn't lose that much quality. However, the trade-off here is that you have to have the codec (and the processing power to decode the video - but don't worry about this). Normally, most movies come with either DivX/XviD for video and LAME/AAC for audio. If you simply want to get your damn video to play, there are two codec packs that will make sure you will always be set no matter what video you find encoded with obscure codecs you've never heard of before. My personal favorite and the one that has never let me down is the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, found here:

Q: What are all these weird abbreviations on the topic titles? I just want to watch the movie!
A: Well you see, people who put these movies on the internet have to get it from somewhere right? So, they've devised a system to tag each movie with the quality, based on the source (which is the main factor which affects the quality). You can't expect a DVD quality movie to come out as soon as the movie is out in theaters! There are various quality levels, ranging from CAM to HDRip. There also are encoding methods. The most popular of which is XviD. For high resolution movies, the standard is H264. You shouldn't really worry about the encoding quality, the guys who encoded the movie usually know what they're doing.

Q: OK, so what are the qualities?
A: Ranging from lowest to highest quality: Cam, TeleSync, TeleCine, Work Print (don't expect to see many of these), R5, DVD Screener, DVD Rip, DVD-R and HD Rip.

Usually, the day a movie comes out in theaters, you'll see a CAM version. CAMs have a very low quality and usually will have noise and heads from the audience. A couple of days later a TS will show up. TS's are the preference for people who can't wait to see the movie. Usually you can understand it just fine, but the image really lacks definition (it is still filmed from the projection booth or inside the theatre, but has better audio). Sometimes, a week or two after the movie appears in theatre, a TC will show up, which is basically the digitally encoded reel of the movie. Usually looks a little better than the TS. Weeks to months later, an R5 or DVDScr will appear. These have a far superior quality and in fact are usually perfect in sound and image, but may sometimes be missing footage such as the credits, or may have a copyright logo on the screen and/or go black and white for a few seconds every now and then. DVDRips are the perfect copies of the movie. They will usually only appear when the movie is ready for retail release (although sometimes obtained a few days/weeks earlier). DVD-R's are basically the same as DVDRips, except that they are not encoded and are in DVD file format, ready for burning. Finally, HDRips are rips from high quality media such as Blue-Ray or HD DVD.

There are also TV quality levels, which are basically just either Digital Signal Rips (DSR) or HD Rips.

Basically, you'll have to check samples and screen caps if provided to see for yourself.

Q: That was rather long. Teehee. Now, what about the file size? Why are they always the same?
A: Basically, there was a standard established long ago. Movies are always encoded with a target file size of 700 MB as that is what will fit on a regular CD. The idea was so that you could burn movies on CDs and play them on DivX compatible devices. However, as time progresses, things change. I've made a list of common file sizes:

Regular Movie: 700 MB
Movie with high quality/long runtime: 1.4 GB (2x 700 MB)
30 minute* TV episode or cartoon/anime: 175 MB
1 hour* TV episodes: 350 MB
DVD-R: 4.3 GB
HDRip: 6-12 GB

*Running time on TV. May be 5 to 15 minutes less of actual footage.

Q: Man, where do I get this obscure program I need for some reason?
A: Well, you could try using the search in the Applications section of this forum. If you don't find it after looking through the search results and trying different search terms, you can either try to use Google to find it, or post a request on this site in the requests section. If you're lucky, someone will have it.

Q: How will I know an application will work on Vista?
A: Some people have compiled a compatibility list. From experience though, not many programs are incompatible, though if they are, you'll usually be able to make them work under compatibility mode or by running as an administrator. The list can be found here:

Q: Alright, I found the program, downloaded it, extracted it, now what?
A: Well, usually applications consist of two parts: the installatation files and the crack files. Usually they will come with instructions also. If they don't come with instructions, then it is assumed that you already know what to do. The most common procedure would be to find the crack file, install the program and apply the crack.

Note, there are cracks, keygens and serials, as well as a few other variants (fixed executable, etc.). All of these are basically what allow you to run the program as if you had purchased it. For example, some programs come with a crack, which is a small executable you must place in the program's folder (usually under Program Files) and run it. It'll ask if you want to patch a file, you must answer yes. By patching the file, you are removing the lines in the program that checks whether or not you bought it.

In case of a serial, you must simply enter the serial when asked and the program will register as if you had obtained the serial legally. A keygen simply generates a random serial for you instead of using a single one (which may bypass certain types of copy protection).

In any other case, simply throw the files in the program directory replacing anything there.

Q: Hey, what are these NFO files?
A: NFO files and files with information regarding the release. A release is the program and crack together, usually supplied by the same person or group who did the crack. It's more of a Scene thing, which I won't go into much detail here. It usually contains some pretty text art, information regarding the program, instructions and group news. It's usually wise to check out the NFO before doing anything as sometimes it may contain important instructions.

Q: Where should I download from? What's the difference between Rapidshare, Megaupload and other services?
A: Well you see, beggars can't be choosers. Except when there's thousands of people uploading everything to different places. Although, there is a predominance of Rapidshare links, some people upload to different places. Basically, if you're a free user, anything is good. Rapidshare has a rather annoying wait time, but most people don't seem to mind.

You may be asking why you should pay to have a premium account, right? Especially paying for something you want to get for free. Well, if you begin really getting into warez, downloading large files every day, you'll notice that the waiting time is really a burden and you'd like to have more freedom. By buying a premium account, you'll be able to use download managers and other services.

Q: So any of them are good? Which one do you use or recommend?
A: I use Rapidshare since I upload and manage to keep up enough points to extend my account for free most of the time. However, by far my most favorite service has been Megashares. They may not offer as many features as Rapidshare, but I love the high file size limit, unlimited link cards and download manager friendly links (which last for weeks). It's also quite cheap.

Q: Dude, I'm downloading waaay slower than I should. This is going to take forever!
A: Well my friend, as it so happens, on the internet, there are many servers in between you and your destinantion, any of which could be slowing down the connection speed. There is only one REAL way to get by this issue, which is using a download manager.

You see Timmy, browsers like yours or mine tend to quite simply download the file using one connection. With a download manager program like FlashGet or GetRight, you'll be able to make several connections at the same time. This helps your download speed as usually, due to network latency, your download speed per connection may be limited.

Q: But I saw a program or patch that promises to improve my connection speed by 10000%!!
A: They're lying. Quite simply, there is no way to improve your network connection above the set limit that your ISP sets for you. In most cases, even if you manage to hack your modem, you won't be able to get that much of a speed boost as ISP's limit the speed available per area. Quite simply, the best speed you can get is the speed you get with a download manager.

Don't go and try a bunch of speed boosters and registry tweaks as they're more likely to mess up your computer than get you higher speeds. If anything, you can MAYBE improve the efficiency of your connection by tweaking some settings. This means a higher speed per connection, but likely not that much of an increase.

Q: Hey, I see some links from Rapidshare.DE and some from Rapidshare.COM, what's up with that?
A: What happened a while ago is that Rapidshare had to move to Sweden in order to avoid some problems with copyright and other restrictions on the contents of their files. They made up an excuse that their hard drives are full and restricted uploading. All the files are still there but without a Premium account, the uploaded files will expire. Basically, it's a matter of time before Rapidshare.de dies. Rapidshare.com however, is still an official one, which according to them has no connection with .DE whatsoever. After the discussion about this died down, people migrated to .Com.

Q: How do I use FTP?
A: Every now and then you'll see a file that is on FTP, especially in the Donator's/VIP Section. FTPs can be a tad unreliable and not always have the best speeds, but beggars can't be choosers, eh? FTPs work based on commands where your client sends a message and the server replies, almost like a conversation. In the olden days, people used to have to know all the commands and type them in manually. Nowadays, FTP clients do all the work for you so it looks like you're browsing a folder like any other inside your computer. In fact, Explorer actually has an embedded FTP client that allows download and upload! All you have to do is type in the FTP address (preceded by ftp://) in the address bar of a folder and you can access the FTP. To download the files, simply drag them where you want to.

If you're not having success with the FTP in Explorer, usually due to hanging, unresponsiveness and simple functionality, you could try an FTP client software. There are many, many FTP clients out there, the most famous of which are SmartFTP, CuteFTP and FlashFXP. There are also inumerous other ones out there, but I won't list them all here, simply look for one that suits your taste and try to find in here on Warez-BB. The one I use is called FTPRush. A second personal favorite is FlashFXP. Both of these are available in the Applications section.

A: Kind of. The laws that specify whether or not it is illegal to DOWNLOAD it are unclear and people tend to make different interpretations of it. It is, however, illegal to use or share the copyrighted material with anyone else. So yea.

Q: So... How do I get a game/movie/application/other for free?
A: I see you're not too interested in how everything works behind the curtain eh? No problem, but you'll need to know a few things first, some basics. Firstly, know that here on Warez-BB, most of the warez are uploaded on file sharing sites like Rapidshare or Megaupload.

All you really need to do is go into a topic inside the appropriate section, and copy-paste the link that is provided into your browser's address bar. Depending on the file hosting service, you'll need to wait a certain amount of time before it gives you the link. Sometimes they'll try to obscure the link so the ads on the page get more exposure, if at first you don't see it, just keep looking.

Q: Alright, I downloaded what I wanted, now what?
A: Now comes the "hard" part. The most popular file upload service is Rapidshare, and it limits the file size per file to 100 MB (1024000 KB), meaning that any file above that would need to be split into several parts. Normally, this is done with a file compression program called WinRAR. You'll need to use it to unpack the actual files to your hard drive and then do what you wish with them.

Q: I see, and where do I get this WinRAR?
A: Same place as any other program: here. Go to the Applications section and search for WinRAR. If you happen to only find the cracked version of WinRAR in an actual Rar file, then you'll have to download the trial version first and then register it with the one you downloaded.

A: This is usually done to protect the file from being taken down by rapidshare or other file services. Rarring the file changes its file size and protects it from being automatically taken down by rapidshare.

Q: But Rar files might have Viruses in them. Right?
A: You should always scan files downloaded from the internet with your antivirus sowftware. If you don't have one try AVG the have a good free option. But to fully answer, unless the rar file has an exicutable in it, it is incredibly unlikely to have a virus in it.

Rapidshare's networks are far from being full. Especially the upload servers. If you have a slow upload/download speed, try choosing a different network-path for uploading/downloading your files.

If all paths are slow, the only thing you can do is to call your ISP and complain, or try later on normally the morning is the best time for good speeds, But it can depend on your location and time zone.

Yes, but only if you own a Premium-account. With a Premium-account, your requests are sent through more complex server-routines, which also support download-accelerators. Those programs support resume of broken files and even segmented downloads. This means, you can download the same file with many streams, resulting in higher download-speed.

The reason for this is that rapidshare has "black listed" that file. They have blocked the MD5 of the file ("File hash") the File Name and the file size.

What is a RAR file?
RAR is the native format of WinRAR archiver. Like other archives, RAR files are data containers, they store one or several files in the compressed form. After you downloaded RAR file from Internet, you need to unpack its contents in order to use it.

How to handle RAR files
WinRAR provides the complete support for RAR files, so you may both create and unpack them. If you installed WinRAR on your computer and downloaded RAR file from Internet, you may double click on RAR file icon to open it in WinRAR, select all files, press "Extract To" button, enter a destination path and press "OK". Another way is to click on the RAR file in Explorer using the right mouse button. If you enabled "Shell integration" option when installing WinRAR, the file context menu will contain "Extract to ..." item.

Some RAR files can be parts of multi-volume sequences. In WinRAR you can split a huge archive to a few smaller files, which are called volumes. They may have extensions .rar (the first volume), .r00, .r01, ..., or .part1.rar (the first volume), .part2.rar, ..., etc. If you need to unpack volumes, place all them to the same folder and start extraction from the first volume.

What is a ZIP file?
A file format that compresses data to a small fraction of its original size in bytes. This makes transfer across a network or the Internet much faster. A single ZIP file can contain many individual files that will be reconsituted after the data is uncompressed. The ZIP format is used by many file compression programs. In order to use a file that has been compressed into a ZIP file, you must have a compression/uncompression software program ie WINZIP OR WINRAR.

What is a ISO?
ISO files are actually images of complete CDs compiles as one whole image.ISO images can be loaded into several different CD recording software packages to create CDs ie.ALCOHOL 120% or NERO.

What is a BIN & CUE file
So you have downloaded two files, one with a .bin extension and one with a .cue extension. "What do I do with these?" you ask. There are a number of options.

BURN TO CD

You will need either NERO or ALCOHOL 120%.
To burn with NERO:
Start NERO, choose FILE, choose BURN IMAGE, locate the .cue file you have and double click it. A dialog box will come up, for anything other than music make sure you choose DISC-AT-ONCE (DAO). You can also turn off the simulation burn if you so choose.
Then burn away.
To burn with ALCOHOL 120%
Start ALCOHOL 120%,choose image burning wizard,locate the .cue file you have and double click it.

.CUE ERRORS
The most common error you will get with a .cue file is when it points to an incorrect path. This is easily fixed. Find the .bin file, copy the exact title including the .bin extension. Now find the .cue file, open the .cue file using notepad. It should look similar to this:

Delete everything in the quotes, in this case we would
delete name of file.bin. Now place the title you copied

Thats it, your .cue file should work now.

VCDGear:
This program will allow you to extract MPEG streams from CD images, convert VCD files to MPEG, correct MPEG errors, and more.

Daemon Tools:
This program creates a virtual drive on your PC which will allow you to "mount" the .cue file and use whatever is in the .bin file without having to burn it to a cd.

ISOBuster:
This program will allow you to "bust" open the .bin file and extract the files within the .bin
